About the Role
The Electrical Design Team Lead is responsible for leading the drafting and design team in the development of accurate MV and LV switchgear drawings. The role ensures designs meet customer requirements, technical specifications, and industry standards while supporting smooth execution across production, testing, and site operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, supervise, and develop the electrical drafting team, including workload allocation, coaching, and performance management.
- Review customer specifications, tender documents, and consultant drawings to define project requirements.
- Prepare and approve Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) for MV and LV switchgear projects.
- Verify switchgear ratings, configurations, and system requirements to ensure technical compliance.
- Select appropriate electrical components, including VCBs, relays, CTs, protection devices, and associated equipment.
- Review and approve design drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements.
- Ensure all drawings are production-ready and released in accordance with project schedules.
- Coordinate closely with Mechanical, Production, Testing, and other internal teams throughout the project lifecycle.
- Manage design revisions and ensure updates are communicated effectively to relevant stakeholders.
- Provide technical support to Production and Testing teams to resolve design-related issues.
- Drive standardisation initiatives through the development of templates, symbols, and standard circuit designs.
- Identify recurring design issues and implement continuous improvement measures.
- Maintain proper document control, including drawing numbering, revisions, and approvals.
- Train and mentor team members in switchgear design principles, drafting standards, and best practices.
Key Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 3-5 years of experience in switchgear design and SLD development, including supervisory or team leadership responsibilities.
- Strong knowledge of MV and LV switchgear systems, including 11kV-33kV switchgear, VCBs, ACBs, MCCBs, ATS systems, and related equipment.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and experienced in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and technical drawings.
- Ability to translate customer specifications and technical requirements into practical engineering designs.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities.
- Good leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Able to manage multiple projects and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
