The Senior / Principal Mechanical Engineer leads and executes the mechanical and piping engineering scope for projects across the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Energy, and Industrial sectors. The role ensures deliverables meet customer requirements, international codes and standards, schedules, quality, and safety requirements.
As a key mechanical technical focal point, you will work closely with Project Management, E&I and Software Engineering, Supply Chain, Fabrication Yards, Vendors, Customers, and Lifecycle Services.
The successful candidate brings strong technical competency in mechanical design, piping systems, packaged skid systems, custody transfer metering, analyser systems, and fabrication execution, together with customer engagement, technical leadership, and risk management capability.
Highly experienced candidates with extensive technical leadership may be considered for a Principal Mechanical Engineer role.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the primary mechanical technical focal point for customers, consultants, and inspection agencies by leading design and 3D model reviews, resolving technical issues, and supporting Sales and Proposal teams during bidding. At Principal level, support regional technical leadership and standardisation, and mentor junior engineers.
- Lead mechanical and piping engineering for custody transfer and allocation metering, analyzer, sampling, and packaged skid systems. Prepare and review deliverables such as P&IDs, GA drawings, skid layouts, piping isometrics, fabrication drawings, pipe supports, lifting arrangements, datasheets, BOMs, calculations, test procedures, and O&M manuals, coordinating across E&I, Software, Process, and Fabrication teams.
- Perform mechanical calculations and analyses, including pressure drop, wall thickness, pipe stress, structural, lifting, hydraulic, and equipment sizing calculations. Apply strong knowledge of piping systems, valves, pumps, strainers, and skid-mounted components to ensure designs are practical to fabricate, install, and maintain.
- Ensure compliance with Oil & Gas mechanical and piping codes and standards, including ASME, ANSI, ASTM, API, API MPMS, AGA, ISO, NACE, and BPVC. Support audits, HAZOP, and 3D model reviews.
- Manage procurement and vendors by preparing RFQs and technical specifications, conducting bid evaluations, reviewing vendor documents, and supporting supplier inspections and FAT.
- Support fabrication, testing, and commissioning by coordinating with fabrication yards and subcontractors, participating in FAT and SAT, closing out punch lists, managing as-built documentation, and supporting after-sales and warranty activities.
- Manage multiple local and international projects simultaneously, prioritising deliverables to support procurement, fabrication, and delivery milestones, and support continuous improvement of engineering processes.
Who You Are
You are a technically accountable, detail-oriented engineer who thrives in fast-paced, multi-stakeholder project environments. You are customer-focused and collaborative, proactively identify and resolve risks, and can lead technical discussions independently with customers, vendors, fabricators, and internal teams.
Key Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- 10+ years of mechanical engineering design and project execution experience in Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Chemical, or Process Automation, including 6+ years hands-on experience with custody transfer and allocation metering, analyser, packaged skid, piping systems, or mechanical equipment buy-outs.
- Conversant with international mechanical and piping codes, including ASME, ANSI, ASTM, API, API MPMS, AGA, ISO, NACE, and BPVC, as well as typical calculations such as pressure drop, wall thickness, relief and actuator sizing, stress and structural analysis, and strainer and pump sizing.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, CADWorx, 3D modelling, CAESAR II, STAAD.Pro, and piping stress, structural, and hydraulic analysis.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently across disciplines and willingness to travel locally and internationally.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with MSS projects, custody transfer and allocation metering, analyser, and sampling systems.
- Experience in skid package design, fabrication support, piping design, equipment selection, and vendor management.
- Experience leading or mentoring technical teams, with 3D model reviews, HAZOP, FAT/SAT, and field commissioning experience.
- Exposure to international EPC project environments and knowledge of FPSO systems and Marine Certification requirements.
- Professional Engineer certification is an advantage.
- 15+ years of experience with demonstrated technical leadership may be considered for Principal Mechanical Engineer.
